The Commander Crucible

House Rules

Nothing too formal here. Just a few guidelines to keep things fun for everyone.

1

Keep It Light

We're here to play cards and have a good time. Let's leave politics, religion, and other heavy topics at the door. Plenty of other stuff to talk about—like why your opponent just tutored for the third time.

2

Talk Before You Shuffle

Before every game, take a minute to chat about power levels and what kind of game everyone wants. No one likes getting pubstomped or sitting through a 3-hour grind when they wanted a quick game.

3

Proxies Are Fine

We don't care if your [insert expensive card name here] is a piece of paper. It's all paper. Play the deck you want to play. Just make sure we can tell what the card is.

4

Win and Lose Gracefully

Someone's gotta win. A little salt is natural, especially if you were just about to win or your attempt got stopped, just don't marinate in it. There's always another game. Please don't spite play across games.

5

Keep the Game Moving

Long turns happen, but if you're taking 5 minutes every game action, people start checking their phones. Try to think ahead.

6

Ask Before You Touch

Want to read someone's card? Ask first. Some folks are particular about their cards, and that's okay.

The TL;DR

Commander is supposed to be fun. These rules exist because we've all been in games that weren't fun, and we'd rather not repeat those experiences.

If something's bugging you, speak up! We're all adults here. And if you think a rule should be added or changed, bring it up on Discord. I am always open to feedback.
